In a new 28-minute Arabic-language audio message posted to the Internet, ISIS spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani warned Jews and Christians that they could either “convert to Islam or pay the ultimate price when your armies are expelled from Muhammad’s peninsula, from Jerusalem, and all Muslim lands.” He went on to say “if Jews and Christians continued on their current path, they would soon regret having done so and be incapable of preventing the surge to the caliphate.” http://news.nationalpost.com/tag/abu-muhammad-al-adnani/

IRAN AND HEZBOLLAH REMOVED FROM LIST

In a stunning move which has many in the U.S. military and intelligence communities shaking their heads, it was revealed this week that the Obama Administration has removed Iran and Hezbollah from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. This, despite their being responsible for the killing of hundreds of U.S. Marines, giving sanctuary to numerous members of al Qaeda and providing arms, financing, training, and other means of facilitating terror-related activities to numerous groups, http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Iran-Hezbollah-off-terror-list/2015/03/17/id/630778/
Why would he do this? One glaring reason is optics. It would look pretty bad for President Obama to ink a nuclear deal which ultimately allows Iran a pathway to developing nuclear weapons if they were still listed as a state sponsor of terrorism. Being on the list also means a host of economic and trade sanctions.So there is potential that such a designation was tabled as a chip in negotiations.
We remind readers that Iran was behind Hezbollah’s bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 which killed 241, the 1985 hijacking of TWA flight 847 from Cairo to San Diego during which U.S. Navy diver Robert Stethem was murdered, and the 1988 capture, brutal torture and hanging of U.S. Marine Colonel William R. Higgins. Then we have the estimated 1,000+ U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq by Iranian proxies. In 2007 during hearings before congress, then Army General David Patraeus testified that Iranian Republican Guard Quds Forces had been provided training, equipment, arms, and funding to terrorists in Iraq. Then there is the ongoing influx of funding, weapons, and training provided by Iran to Syrian government forces and Iran’s backing of the Houti rebels who brought down the government in Yemen just weeks ago. And this week in an article appearing in the Washington Post, David Patraeus argues that the foremost threat to Iraq’s long-term stability and the broader regional equilibrium is not the Islamic State; but rather, the Iranian back Shiite militias. And finally, to this very day, Iran continues to declare they ultimately seek to destroy the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.
In the end, the removal of Iran and Hezbollah from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism is a stunning development which will have dramatic global and regional implications for for U.S. citizens and interests and that of our allies.

A patient has tested positive for Ebola in Liberia’s capital, officials said Friday, deflating hopes that the West African nation had beaten the disease after weeks with no new cases. Liberia has seen the most deaths in the West African Ebola outbreak, which has killed more than 10,000 people. But since it discharged its last case on March 5, it was counting down to being declared Ebola-free. Countries must wait 42 days from when the last patient tests negative before an outbreak is declared over. Now, a new patient has tested positive, said Dr. Francis Kateh, the acting head of the country’s Ebola Incident Management Team. A second test is generally done to confirm the diagnosis. Tolbert Nyenswah, who runs Liberia’s Ebola response, also said he had been told the test result was positive. The woman went to the emergency room of Monrovia’s Redemption Hospital on Thursday night, according to Elizabeth Hamann of the International Rescue Committee, which is helping the hospital safely reopen amid the outbreak. She was identified as a suspected Ebola case and transferred to the hospital’s transit unit, where she could be isolated while awaiting test results. She is now at a treatment center. In a worrying sign, it is not clear where the woman became infected. She doesn’t seem to be linked to any of the people on an Ebola contacts list, Kateh said. “We have to investigate where the person came from,” he said. “Did they travel out of the country?” An emergency meeting will be held Saturday to discuss the case. Although hopes were high that Liberia had beaten Ebola, officials knew that until two neighboring countries – Sierra Leone and Guinea – also beat the disease, Liberia would remain at risk.

Alaska Dispatch News, Dec 11, 2014 (emphasis added): Scientists seek cause of patchy baldness in some Beaufort Sea polar bears — Polar bears in the southern Beaufort Sea area are suffering hair loss due to a condition called alopecia syndrome… but the precise cause of that stress is yet to be determined, according to a new study published online in the Journal of Wildlife Diseases… Over the study period, 3.45 percent of the bears examined had alopecia syndrome — patchy loss of guard and underlying hairs around the head, neck and shoulders, accompanied by crusty lesions on the exposed skin. The incidences peaked in 2012, when 28 percent of the examined polar bears had the problem. That was at about the same time a mysterious affliction, with patchy fur loss and bleeding skin lesions, sickened hundreds of Arctic Alaska seals, killing many of them. The affliction was seen among some walruses… There were some years when none of the captured polar bears had alopecia syndrome, and some years, like 2012, with relatively high rates… “They might be more energetically stressed, and then they encounter some other stressors,” [USGS biologist Todd Atwood] said… Further analysis of the Beaufort bears’ alopecia problems is planned…
Journal of Wildlife Diseases, scientists from USGS and Alaska Department of Fish & Game, Jan 2015: Alopecia (hair loss) has been observed in several marine mammal species… From 1998 to 2012, we observed an alopecia syndrome in polar bears from the southern Beaufort Sea of Alaska that presented as bilaterally asymmetrical loss of guard hairs and thinning of the undercoat around the head, neck, and shoulders, which, in severe cases, was accompanied by exudation and crusted skin lesions. Alopecia was observed in 49 (3.45%) of the bears sampled during 1,421 captures [peaking in] 2012 (28%)… The cause of the syndrome remains unknown and future work should focus on identifying the causative agent and potential effects on population vital rates.
Seal with hair loss – Shishmaref, AK, Nov 18, 2014: A [bearded seal] had fur missing from its back, flippers and stomach… There has been a disease of some kind that killed many ice seals and bearded seals in the region… when we see this it makes us nervous… seals continue to be reported with hair loss.
NOAA (pdf), 2014: The [Unusual Mortality Event] investigation will remain open and active for… ringed seals, ribbon seals, bearded seals and spotted seals… reports from the Bering Strait region continue regarding an unusual number… with patchy to generalized hair loss and/or… sores. Some of these “hairless seals” may represent survivors of the 2011 mortality event… the exact cause of this disease is not currently known… we cannot give specific recommendations on the safety of these animals for food or contact with people.

McClatchy, Mar 13, 2015 (emphasis added): With millions of starfish dying all along the West Coast [and] disintegrating into mush [Congressman Denny Heck wants NOAA] to declare “sea star wasting syndrome” an emergency before the starfish becomes extinct.
National Geographic, Jan 23, 2015: [It’s killed] tens of millions of sea stars.
Cornell Prof. Drew Harvell, sea star researcher, Mar 13, 2015: “There has never been an outbreak of disease in natural populations of animals that I know that’s been this large.”
Newport Beach official Michelle Clemente: “All of our area’s sea stars have disintegrated”
Russian gov’t news service (Sputnik), Mar 12, 2015: Many researchers initially believed radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster could be at the heart of the disease… Dr. Peter Raimondi of the University of California at Santa Cruz [believed] the power plant contaminated the water, propagating the disease which the simple immune system of the starfish would not be able to fight off… “One of the byproducts is obviously nuclear radiation discharge…” he added. Today, scientists are less convinced that Fukushima is to blame, citing the fact that [1] awareness of the disease predates the disaster, [2] the die-offs are observable on both US coasts, and [3] other marine life doesn’t appear to be affected.

Melissa Miner, researcher who works for Dr. Raimondi (at 18:30): “The Olympic coast was the first place, in June 2013, where we saw the disease.”
Miner (at 4:45): “This is very different from prior events…It’s not associated w/ warm water … Populations really [got] hit hard over the winter, this has never happened… The other big difference… is the geographic extent is much, much larger than we’ve ever seen.”

Miner (50:45 in): “I think it was just a few-month epidemic on the East Coast of the US… My feeling, because we have not heard a lot about it, is that it sort of disappeared. It just lasted a few months and then was gone.”

“Researchers are now keeping an eye on other echinoderms, such as sea urchins and sea cucumbers. Wasting has been observed in those animals… ‘We’re seeing urchins in southern California with lesions in areas where stars were dying’ [said Miner].” -Source
Miner (43:15 in): “People are really watching closely [if] it will spread… We’ve had isolated observations of sick urchins and sea cucumbers w/ lesions and other odd looking things.”
What about the reported surge in baby sea stars? “‘It’s not a coast-wide phenomenon at all,’ said Miner… as few as four of 70 long-term sites [have] greater than normal numbers… ‘I was trying really hard to find juveniles and I couldn’t find any,’ said [Chrissy McLean].” -Source
What about reports that wasting mystery is solved? “No one knows what might have triggered such widespread wasting, although scientists [published a paper identifying] densovirus… rather than environmental pollutants, such as the oft-suggested [Fukushima] radiation… They found the virus in a Connecticut aquarium where mass die-offs had not been observed, as well as in preserved sea stars from 1942… Miner, who is one of the paper’s authors [said] “It’s likely that other environmental factors have pushed stars to the limit” -Source

The last month has brought a spate of six police killings of unarmed men.
The latest killings have further inflamed tensions after months of protests over the police shooting in August of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old black man, in Ferguson, Mo.

DeKalb County, Ga., March 9
A police officer on Monday fatally shot a naked unarmed man, who authorities described as deranged.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in an area east of Atlanta, police said. Before officers arrived, another call came in that the man had removed his clothes and was running around.

Officer Robert Olsen, a seven-year veteran of the department, shot and killed 27-year-old Anthony Hill, who is black.
Hill charged at Olsen, who fired two shots, according to DeKalb County Police Capt. Steve Fore. Olsen was carrying a stun gun, but didn’t use it.
Olsen was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Hill had been arrested several times by Atlanta police, on suspicion of marijuana possession, obstructing an officer’s performance, and disorderly conduct, court records show.
Aurora, Colo., March 6
Aurora police shot and killed an unarmed black 37-year-old man Friday.
Naeschylus Vinzant died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Arapahoe County coroner’s office.

Vinzant had removed his ankle monitor and fled from parole March 2, authorities said. He was wanted in connection with an “assault, robbery, kidnapping and domestic violence incident” that took place that day, police said.
Vinzant was killed four days later as police moved to arrest him. The city’s SWAT team was called in because of Vinzant’s “past violent history,” police said.
Court records show Vinzant previously faced charges of assault, menacing, eludicing police and illegal weapons possession.
Madison, Wis., March 6
Also on Friday, a Madison police officer shot and killed 19-year-old Tony Robinson, another unarmed black man.

Police said they received several calls about a man who had “battered someone” and had been “out in traffic” and had then gone inside an apartment, police said.
Officer Matt Kenny heard a disturbance in the apartment and forced his way in, according to police.
After a scuffle with Robinson in which Kenny received a “blow to the head,” the officer shot Robinson, according to Madison Police Chief Mike Koval.
Robinson later was pronounced dead of gunshot wounds. Koval did not disclose how many shots were fired, citing the information as part of the shooting investigation, which will be handled by the state’s Division of Criminal Investigation.
Los Angeles, March 1 and March 5
The fatal shooting of an unarmed man on skid row renewed debate over how to properly police the homeless and mentally ill people living on the streets.
Charly Leundeu Keunang, a 43-year-old black man, died of multiple gunshot wounds on March 1, according to coroner’s officials.
Police said Keunang refused to follow their commands and tried to fight them, reaching for an officer’s holstered pistol. The gun’s slide was partially pulled back and the magazine dislodged, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said.
Activists have since denounced the shooting, which was caught on video, taking to the streets in protest and calling for an independent investigation.
A second investigation is underway following the fatal shooting March 5 of an unarmed motorist involved in a pursuit in Burbank.
Sergio Navas, 35, was shot by an officer sitting in a squad car after their two cars collided during the chase.
Wounded, the man got out of the car and ran, but officers chased him down and handcuffed him, said Officer Wendy Reyes.
He was declared dead at the scene after paramedics tried to resuscitate him.
The chase began when the man sped away from LAPD officers who tried to pull him over, police said. Officers started following the car because it had paper plates and Navas was “driving erratically,” they said.
Officers followed him into Burbank, where the man drove into a short cul-de-sac and was cornered. The man’s car collided with the passenger side of the LAPD car, and the officer in the passenger seat started shooting, police said.
Pasco, Wash., Feb. 10
Police in Pasco shot and killed Antonio Zambrano-Montes in a parking lot Feb. 10, following reports that he was hurling rocks at vehicles.
A video posted to YouTube appears to show Zambrano-Montes, 35, exiting the parking lot and then running down a side street with officers in pursuit.
Pasco police said they had ordered Zambrano-Montes to stop throwing rocks several times and tried to subdue him with a stun gun after he hit two officers with rocks.
Police fired 17 rounds at Zambrano-Montes, according to Sgt. Ken Lattin, public information officer for the Tri-Cities Special Investigations Unit, which is reviewing the shooting.
Bullets struck him at least five times, investigators said.

Re-read the one quote above that particularly says it all! “A government that increasingly controls every aspect of our life, from our health care, to now, even the Internet.” Every aspect of our life is all he really needed to say.
Ever since the left-wing, anti-austerity Syriza party in Greece took control of the country, Greek leaders have been putting up a fight for its economy, reported Democracy Now. Greek financial leaders will continue trying to get their country out of the eurozone in order to keep their economy from completely bottoming-out.
Greece’s problems really didn’t go full tilt until Wall Street banks got involved. One of the main culprits is Goldman Sachs, which enabled Greece to hide their debts. The bank charged them $300 million for the operation, a veritable payday for the massive bank. This transaction goes all the way back to 2001, the year that Greece became part of Europe’s monetary union.
The New York Times reported in 2010 that “Wall Street tactics akin to the ones that fostered subprime mortgages in America have worsened the financial crisis shaking Greece.” Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and many others contributed to the growing Greek debt crisis.
Their tactic? Take advantage of an entity while its down and use the desperation of another country to line Wall Street’s pockets. The banks took interest into a high risk client, and, driven by greed, they intensified an already existing problem. Did the banks care? No. They just cared about what’s profitable.
“Politicians want to pass the ball forward, and if a banker can show them a way to pass a problem to the future, they will fall for it,” said economist Gikas Hardouvelis.
The banks worsened the problem so much that the European Union called for an investigation into Goldman Sachs and the other banks involved.
“It appears that Goldman Sachs have colluded with past Greek governments to reduce the appearance of Greece’s debt for short-term gain, while in reality making it worse than ever,” said Arlene McCarthy, vice-president of the European parliament’s economic and monetary affairs committee. “These deals have increased costs for Greek taxpayers and left a mess behind for Greece’s citizens and the eurozone.”
Today, this problem has compounded over the years and with the threat of austerity, Greece has been backed into a corner.
When Greek financial minister, Yaris Varoufakis, introduced a compromise proposal to German finance minister, Wolfgang Schauble, the proposal was swiftly rejected. A union of 19 eurozone finance ministers will meet again today in Brussels in an attempt “to resolve a standoff that has sent jitters across the continent at the prospect of a messy Greek exit from the single currency.”
Greek’s €240 billion bailout expires in exactly one week. However, austerity measures attached to the bailout are making it difficult for the country to break out and abandon the euro. Because Greece is “locked out” of international lending markets, the country could go completely broke next month if no deal is reached, reported The Guardian.
“We are working so that Greece stays in the eurozone,” said Germany’s commissioner to the European Union, Guenther Oettinger. “On this basis I think an agreement will still be possible in the next eight days – if necessary via a further meeting of government leaders.”
Austerity measures and past deals with banks have Greece in the pressure cooker. If no deal is reached, Greece’s economy will tank, only accentuating the actions of Wall Street banks that sent the Greek economy from a stall into an outright tailspin.

What You Need To Know
On multiple occasions this week AlertsUSA subscribers have been notified via SMS messages to their mobile devices regarding new terror threats both domestic and abroad. On Sunday the 22nd, the Somali terror organization Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahidin—commonly known as al-Shabaab, called on supporters in the West to carry out attacks on shopping malls in the U.S., Canada and the UK. Specifically identified were the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN, the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta and London’s Oxford Street. Each of these communities have large Somali populations.
During an interview with CNN, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson warned mall visitors to be vigilant:
“If anyone is planning to go to the Mall of America today, they’ve got to be particularly careful,” Johnson said. “There will be enhanced security there, but public vigilance, public awareness and public caution in situations like this is particularly important, and it’s the environment we’re in, frankly.”
DHS/FBI WARNING MALL OPERATORS NATIONWIDE
While the al-Shabaab video specifically referenced three malls, the Department of Homeland Security and FBI have been quietly warning mall operators across N. America of the need for increased vigilance and security measures, and in particular, near those communities with large Somali immigrant populations. At present, Minneapolis-St. Paul, home to 30 mosques and known within the international Somali community as “Little Mogadishu,” has the largest concentration, followed by Atlanta, Columbus, Washington, D.C., New York City, Buffalo, Seattle, Kansas City, San Diego, Lewiston, Maine and San Francisco.
In terms of the size of the Somali population in the U.S., according to the Dept. of Homeland Security’s Office of Immigration Statistics, in the ten year span leading up to the end of 2013, there have been more than 68,000 Somali refugees resettled in the U.S.. In 2014, that number was increased by 9000. And these are just the figures for the primary refugee applicant. These numbers do not include spouses or children. According to Refugee Resettlement Watch and the State Department, more than 800 new refugees from Somalia arrive in the United States every month
SOMALI REFUGEES TO THE U.S. BEING RECRUITED
Readers are reminded that Somali refugees to the U.S. are coming out of a Muslim-dominated country torn apart by a civil war, terrorism, corruption, piracy for ransom and fraud. The refugees are then transplanted into communities such as Minneapolis-Saint Paul where most enter and remain on social welfare programs, with only a very small percentage actually assimilating into broader American culture. Many of the mosques in these communities contribute to the radicalization of the youth, with recruiters drawing them into foreign terrorist networks such as al-Shabaab in Somalia and ISIS in Syria. At least two Somali immigrants from Minneapolis-St. Paul recently died fighting for ISIS in the Middle East. The FBI openly states that dozens of Somali immigrants, both men and women, have left to fight with Islamic militants in the Middle East. And these are just the just the ones law enforcement has been able to track. Logic would dictate there are scores of others.
WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN TO YOU?
First we caution to readers of the need to be extra discerning when following mainstream news coverage of threats such as those from al Shabaab. First the story is hyped into the stratosphere. They then proceed to downplay the threat by saying that al-Shabaab is a backwater outfit, running out of money and their video was intended as a plea for additional financial support. Another popular angle is to dismiss the threat as a ploy to scare the public admist Congressional funding battles. The truth of the matter is that federal, state and local law enforcement are taking the threat very seriously, and for good reason.
Al Shabaab is one of the world’s most active Islamic terror organizations. The group and their followers have been responsible for dozens of attempted and successful terror attacks in such places as Somalia, Kenya, Denmark, Australia and many others. Then we have instances like Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a Somali immigrant to the U.S. who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for trying to detonate a bomb at a holiday tree-lighting ceremony in Portland, Oregon, in November 2010.
Given the carnage of the Westagate Mall attack in Nairobi, Kenya in 2013, the involvement of Somali-Americans in the attack, the effectiveness of radicalization efforts in Somali communities in the U.S. and the overall appearance of sympathy for Islamic extremism by the Obama Administration and liberal media, law enforcement and counter-terrorism professionals in the U.S., Canada and the UK are particularly concerned.

The Federal Health Department has confirmed 18 Australians have now been diagnosed with hepatitis A as a result of eating contaminated frozen berries imported from China. There are seven people in New South Wales, seven in Queensland, three in Victoria and one in Western Australia with the infection. “Most people who contract hepatitis A will recover with rest and fluids, although it may cause severe illness in older people, those with chronic liver disease and those who are immunosuppressed,” the Health Department’s statement said. “Hepatitis A is spread via food and water, including ice, that is contaminated with faecal matter from infected people.” The Agriculture Department had identified 30 food importers, including Victoria-based Patties Foods, importing frozen berries from China. In Senate estimates hearings in Canberra on Monday, many senators were sceptical, with committee chairman and Liberal senator Bill Heffernan, Labor senator Doug Cameron and Greens senator Rachel Siewert all pressing departmental officials on how they could be sure food safety was any more certain at other Chinese berry processing facilities. “The problem I have, is that you would not have known there was a problem with the two factories except that there was a hepatitis outbreak,” Senator Cameron said. “So if we’d asked these questions of the department a week before the outbreak, you’d have been telling us that everything’s OK.” The department has placed a holding order on frozen berries from the two Chinese factories linked to the hepatitis A outbreak, until June. But the holding order does not apply to other Chinese frozen berries not linked to those factories, or to frozen berries from any other country. Greens senator Rachel Siewert asked why the department’s holding order should not apply to the other 29 berry importers which had not been directly linked to the current outbreak.

What You Need To Know
On multiple occasions this week AlertsUSA subscribers have been notified via SMS messages to their mobile devices regarding multiple international terrorism concerns. Most pressing are new threats being posed by Islamic State militants to the European mainland.
Following gains made by the Islamic State in Libya, multiple sources indicate the plan of the Islamic State is to use the embattled N. African state as a gateway to wage war across the whole of southern Europe. This past Sunday, within the well publicized video addressed to “the nation signed with the blood of the cross” showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians on the Mediterranean shoreline (WARNING – GRAPHIC), there is footage of a khaki-clad militant pointing a blood-stained finger northwards, declaring: “We will conquer Rome.”
The threat raised alarms with Italian authorities to such an extent that this week the Italian government deployed ~5000 soldiers around Rome and elsewhere in the country to protect sensitive sites.
Though not receiving much press coverage in America, Italy has a major illegal immigration problem in the form of boatloads of individuals, mostly male, arriving from the nations of Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Turkey on a near daily basis. Looking at a map of the region will show that Sicily is just over 100 miles from the Tunisian coast and only about 300 miles from Libya.

While no one envisions a Normandy-style Islamic State invasion, the slow creep of radical Muslims into Italy, and Spain, and Greece poses significant security concerns due to the high potential for random terror attacks as are being experienced in a growing number of Western countries. Additionally, as the European economies continue to decline, thus creating greater hardship within Muslim communities already struggling with high unemployment and a refusal to assimilate into local cultures, there will be an increasingly larger number of European Muslims more easily persuaded to join the movement. In short, why travel to Iraq and Syria to wage jihad when you can wage jihad at home?
SIMILAR THREAT TO THE U.S.
There are also similar concerns for America. As AlertsUSA reported on multiple occasions last year, the Obama Administration is dramatically expanding the number of Syrian refugees allowed to resettle permanently in the United States from about 350 in 2014 to close to 10,000 this year and in years to come. There are significant concerns that this program will facilitate the import of jihadists into the homeland.
Last week, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Nicholas Rasmussen, told the House Homeland Security Committee that the Syrian refugees are “clearly a population of concern.” (VIDEO)

FEAR OF “FEDERALLY FUNDED JIHADI PIPLINE”
In the closing lines of his opening statement, the committee chairman, Rep. Mike McCaul states,
“I am very disappointed that the State Department chose not to send a witness here today. The threats we are discussing are serious, and the State Department plays a key role in combating them. I recently sent a letter to the White House expressing my concerns over the Department’s desire to resettle tens of thousands of Syrian refugees in the United States. I am worried ISIS could exploit this effort in order to deploy operatives to America via a federally funded jihadi pipeline.”
EGYPTIAN INTEL HINTS OF POSSIBLE SPRING ATTACKS
There are reports that Egypt has intelligence revealing the Islamic State is planning a worldwide offensive this spring or summer that could reach targets within the United States. These reports indicate that ISIS members captured in recent weeks in the Sinai Peninsula have revealed plans for ground offensives and that ISIS is plotting possible attacks using cells abroad.
We also remind readers that just weeks ago, the head of the FBI Counterterrorism Division, Michael Steinbach, told CNN “there are already individuals in the U.S. that have been in communication with groups like [ISIS] who have a desire to conduct an attack,” and conceded the FBI finds it extremely difficult to track every American traveling abroad who can join ISIS or receive training by foreign terrorist organizations.

Damn, I thought we had “global warming”, even though scientists have said that the Antarctic Ice Caps are thicker than they have ever been, others insist on “global warming”. Isn’t that amazing? US is in record lows, and even hell is freezing over, but we are experiencing “global warming”. Oh well, guess they could not figure out a way to tax us to death on the idea of a new ice age… (sarcasm supplied)
We have not one, but two more systems we’re watching closely that could bring more snow and ice through the weekend into early next week.
We’re sorry to be the messengers. We know snow fatigue is reaching epidemic proportions during what is approaching a record snow season in New England.
We know some are recovering from Winter Storm Octavia, a snowy, icy mess spanning more than 1,200 miles from the South to the East.
We’ve had six winter storms since Jan. 25 in just over three weeks. Snow may now be one of those four-letter words you shouldn’t say.
Unfortunately, the relentless cold continues. Any system moving into that cold air has the potential to produce at least nuisance snow and ice.
Here’s our current forecast for each of these systems, starting with an Eastern snowmaker.
System #1: Northeast Nuisance
An arctic cold front will spread light snow into the East on Wednesday and Wednesday night.
Snow amounts through Wednesday night will generally be 3 inches or less as this cold front slices through, including a swath from the Ohio River Valley into the Appalachians, much of New York, Pennsylvania, and parts of the Mid-Atlantic States.
Possible slick commutes, due to this fresh, light snow include:
Wed. afternoon: Pittsburgh | Charleston, West Virginia
Thu. morning: NYC | Philly | Balt. | Wash., D.C.
Thursday, low pressure is expected to wrap-up off the New England coast, south of Nova Scotia.
If that surface low wraps up close enough to the New England coast, heavier snow could develop Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, with the greatest chance of that happening over parts of Maine.
(FORECASTS: Portland | Bangor | Eastport)
For now, we only expect mainly light to locally moderate snow (4 inches or less) over the rest of New England Thursday and Thursday night, including Boston and Hartford.
System #2: Widespread Mess
We mentioned earlier the record-setting February cold air dumping into the East and South later this week.
The jet stream will once again send disturbances and moisture rippling over this cold air.
We’re not anticipating an intense low-pressure system to spin up with blizzard conditions and two-foot-plus snow, as we saw in some areas with Winter Storm Neptune.
However, a mess of snow, sleet and freezing rain appears to be a good bet from the Rockies to parts of the South and East Friday at least into the weekend, in somewhat similar flavor as Winter Storm Octavia.
The lower three maps at right show our current forecast Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The exact lines between snow, ice, and just plain rain will likely shift a bit as we near the event and our forecast guidance comes into agreement.
Here is the general outlook:
Friday:
Mid-South/Tennessee Valley snow, sleet, freezing rain. Snow in Rockies, Front Range.
Cities to watch: Little Rock | Memphis | Nashville
Saturday:
Snow from Front Range of Rockies to the southern Great Lakes and into Northeast
Sleet/freezing rain possible south of that snow swath.
Precipitation should change to rain in most of Friday’s sleet/ice area.
Cities to watch: St. Louis | Cleveland | NYC
Sunday:
Snow, sleet and some freezing rain may persist in the Northeast and Appalachians.
Cities to watch: Boston | NYC
If that wasn’t enough, with the cold air reinforced this weekend, and more upper-level energy lurking over the Desert Southwest, we can’t rule out additional rounds of snow, sleet and freezing rain from the southern High Plains into the Southeast early next week.

What You Need To Know
On Tues of this week AlertsUSA subscribers were notified via SMS messages to their mobile devices of an announcement of plans to deploy U.S. soldiers to Ukraine to train and advise Ukrainian forces. Specifically, within weeks the U.S. is set to deploy 600 members of the U.S. Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based out of Vicenza, Italy, to within 600 miles of the war-torn eastern region of the country to work with 3 full battalions of Ukrainian soldiers.
According to U.S. Army Europe Commander Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, “We’ll train them in security tasks, medical tasks, how to operate in an environment where the Russians are jamming communications and how to protect themselves from Russian and rebel artillery.”
For the uninitiated, these training descriptions are boiler plate material. There is a high likelihood training objectives will far exceed these publicly stated objectives.
MOSCOW: ARMS TO UKRAINE A DECLARATION OF WAR
Readers will recall that last week Threat journal reported on increasing calls by Congress for President Obama to provide lethal aid to Ukraine. In response, the Moscow Times ran a story this week within which a spokesman for the Russian defense ministry said the move would be seen by the Kremlin as a declaration of war and would spark a global escalation. The unnamed spokesman warned that Moscow would not only up the ante in eastern Ukraine, but “also respond asymmetrically against Washington or its allies on other fronts.”
The source went on to say that one possible avenue of asymmetrical retaliation could be to give in to long-standing Chinese requests for sensitive defense technologies that would aid in its development of high-tech weapons capable of doing serious damage to U.S. naval forces in the Asia-Pacific, or to even back Iran in a military operation against long-time enemy Saudi Arabia.
On Wed, AlertsUSA notified subscribers of a direct warning issued by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who stated that lethal weapons supplies to Ukraine will have “dramatic consequences” and risked direct military involvement of Russia.

As of Wed of this week, Ambassador Matthew Tueler and remaining U.S. staff had left the country. The embassies of the U.K., France, Germany and Italy have also been evacuated.
DEATH TO AMERICA – JUST A SLOGAN
The New York Times quotes the leader of the new Iran-backed Houthi government in Yemen as saying that the group's slogan, "Death to America," is in fact just a slogan and they don't mean it literally.
Despite such assurances, sources in the Foreign Service community tell AlertsUSA that one of the main factors in the closure of the facility was what is believed to have been a "practice siege", during which Houti gunmen blockaded all roads leading to and from the U.S. Embassy. Our sources also report that armed U.S. drones and fighter aircraft were flying above the capital of Sana'a in an apparent effort to secure the evacuation of the embassy staff.
In a sign of the abruptness of the U.S. departures, there are reports that U.S. embassy vehicles were left at the VIP entrance of the Sana'a airport with the keys still in the ignition. Neither the State Department nor the Pentagon are offering any clarification on why, despite having amphibious assault warships offshore loaded with Marines and Osprey aircraft, did U.S. diplomatic staff and U.S. Marines leave the country via commercial flights.
Readers are reminded that since the start of the so called Arab Spring in 2011, the Obama State Department has been forced to close three embassies: Libya, Syria and now Yemen.

The concept is known as Taqiyya (Tah-key-ahh) and it is WIDELY practiced by Muslims worldwide, including N. America. It is a key foundation of the faith.
Taqiyya: – Concealing or disguising one’s beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at a time of eminent danger, whether now or later in time, to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury.
The primary Koranic verse allowing deception with respect to non-Muslims is as follows:
Koran 3:28 – “Let believers not take for friends and allies infidels instead of believers. Whoever does this shall have no relationship left with Allah – unless you but guard yourselves against them, taking precautions.”
As explained above by Dr. Bill Warner of the Center for the Study of Political Islam, a Muslim can lie about Islam if it serves Islam. And one of the ways he can serve Islam is that the Muslim is not discriminated against. Additionally, a Muslim husband and wife may lie to each other as long as it smoothes the relationships in the household.

The former person in charge of health, Yamashita Shunichi, said it would be only a 1 in a million chance of children getting any kind of cancer because of radiation. But he was lying. Right now, it’s like 1 in 3,000 — it’s an epidemic… The head of the National Cancer Research Center estimated right now in Fukushima the rate of cancer has gone up 61 times. And yet the gov’t and also the hospitals related to the gov’t are saying this is not because of radiation… How long does the gov’t think that we’ll be silent about this? In light of this epidemic, my anger will never die down. And then to think about the parents of the small children – how worried they must be.

It’s nothing to do with radiation.’ Talk about denial, it just hurts my heart.

Sick females and juveniles are also being found… “The difference [now] is we’re not just seeing little pups,” said Lauren Palmer, a veterinarian [with the Marine Mammal Center at Fort MacArthur]. “Females and yearlings are coming in… It’s really hard to wrap our head around the story of what’s happening.”…
David Bard, operations director at the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro, Jan 19, 2015: “What we’re seeing that’s different is we are seeing a wider array of species and age groups, so in other words [in 2013] we were seeing primarily California sea lion pups, this year we’re also seeing harbor seals and fur seals as well as some sub-adults and adults.”
Daily Breeze, Jan 19, 2015: This year, [Bard] said, there is more diversity among the animals being brought in. “There was a distinct pattern in 2013 of malnourished (sea lion) pups,” he said. This year, harbor seals and adult animals are also affected. “We’re looking at that and any other red flags so that as we move further into the season we may get more answers.”
L.A. Times, Jan 30, 2015: [P]ups aren’t the only ones in trouble. California marine mammal rehabilitation centers this month have treated record numbers of sea lions of all ages… “We’ve had 67 strandings of sea lions of all different ages,” said Johnson… “The whole population is getting hit hard… It’s a real shock to us,” he added. The story’s much the same in Southern California. “It’s shaping up to be a very, very bad year as far as rehabilitation,” said David Bard, operations director at the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro. There were 75 animals at the center as of the end of January. Like its sister center in Sausalito, the facility was seeing a wider age range of sea lions in January, as well as a greater cross-section of species.

CBS Los Angeles, Jan 27, 2015: Further alarming the center’s experts is an influx of varying species, according to Executive Director Keith Matassa. “The difference this year is we’re also seeing different species we don’t normally see down here,” Matassa said. In 2013, a record-setting year, the problem of sea lions coming ashore was limited mostly to Southern California, but now the entire coast is being affected, Matassa said.
Black Hawk helicopters and truck-sized X-ray machines that are typically deployed along the U.S.-Mexico border have been brought to the Super Bowl venue to assist with the security effort.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection showed off the technology Monday as it helps with Super Bowl security.
Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske was on hand for a demonstration of the agency’s Black Hawks and large mobile X-ray machines that are used to detect contraband and explosives. The helicopters and X-ray machines are from Tucson and Nogales, some of the busiest spots in the nation for the smuggling of drugs and immigrants.
Kerlikowske said Arizona’s border with Mexico still has adequate security while some equipment is used in Glendale for the Super Bowl.
He said it’s not just the technology that will help keep the big game safe, but the expertise behind it.
“The real key about this equipment is the people who operate them,” Kerlikowske said.
The CBP is also deploying about 100 officers who will assist other federal and local law enforcement agencies.
The X-ray machines are mobile and the size of a large truck.
They slowly pan outside a semi-truck while operators look for anomalies. The X-ray machines are in heavy use at the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales, one of the busiest ports of entry for commerce in the country.
Within a few minutes, the X-ray machines will have scanned an entire semi-trailer, looking for contraband and explosives.
The CBP also will use its Tucson-based helicopters and Black Hawks to monitor the air during the game, when other aircrafts are not allowed to fly nearby. The Black Hawks are used by the CBP and the Border Patrol for a variety of missions, including for rescuing border crossers who become sick or injured.

CDC Releases New Phase of the Know More Hepatitis Campaign
Of the estimated 3.2 million Americans who have Hepatitis C, 3 in 4 are people born from 1945 to 1965. The Know More Hepatitis campaign encourages everyone born from 1945-1965 to follow the CDC recommendation to get tested for Hepatitis C.
The campaign is being implemented using a variety of multi-media channels including print, radio and TV PSAs, as well as airport dioramas, billboards, and transit advertisements. CDC developed additional campaign materials to help educate patients and promote testing for Hepatitis C including a new video PSA “Hepatitis C: A Hidden Disease”which shows that even if you have a healthy life and no symptoms, you could still have Hepatitis C.
Implementing the Viral Hepatitis Action Plan: The Role of Community Leadership
Since the release of the 2014 Action Plan for the Prevention, Care, & Treatment of Viral Hepatitis, groups like Hep B United (HBU) have used it as a framework to help guide their work. HBU utilized the Stakeholders’ Workbook as a starting point to develop a Strategic Plan which highlights HBU members’ areas of focus: community and provider education, improving testing and linkage to care to prevent hepatitis B-related liver disease and cancer, eliminating perinatal transmission of hepatitis B, and strengthening hepatitis B and C surveillance efforts. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued a funding opportunity announcement (FOA). December 28, 2014, the Director of Numazu Deepblue Aquarium Aquarium (Numazu Grand Bleu) published on Twitter a picture of a lobster with strange colors.
He commented a local fisher went for the fishing of Glyphocrangonidae, which would be the last time of this year. This pictured shrimp, which looks like a different kind was accidentally caught. The location is eastern part of Shizuoka prefecture.
He said he always fishes in that area but he has never seen such a shrimp before.
The type is not identified yet.

The director of Numazu Deepblue Aquarium posted on Twitter a photo of the strangely colored shrimp on 12/28/2014.
He commented a local fisher went for the fishing of Glyphocrangonidae, which would be the last time of this year. This pictured shrimp, which looks like a different kind was accidentally caught. The location is eastern part of Shizuoka prefecture.

Some patients were hospitalized, and there is one death associated with the use of these products; it is not known if this death is directly related to the use of the product. Adverse events have been reported in seven states: Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, North Carolina, New York, and Colorado.

” Two Albuquerque police officers have been charged with murder in the shooting death of James Boyd, a homeless man killed during a standoff in March. The Albuquerque District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder each against SWAT team member Dominique Perez and former detective Keith Sandy on Monday.
The Associated Press reported (via Yahoo News) Jan. 12 that Albuquerque D. A. Kari Brandenburg says she will take the case straight to a judge for preliminary hearing and by-pass the usual Grand Jury process. Brandenburg says she wants the hearing to be open to the public.
